That Finest Of Lines

It’s a very fine line

Between confidence and arrogance

Both in the demonstration

And the very foundation

People say “stand tall” and “let your voice be heard

“Don’t be another sheep in the herd”

But to walk and talk with self-assurance

Is seen by many as self-importance

To find that balance is itself a talent

One I wish I had but I know I haven’t

Which is the reason I self-deprecate

‘Cause I’ve got no need to over-compensate

I’ve got confidence in my abilities

So I exaggerate devaluing qualities

Lest my own self-confidence

Be mistaken for arrogance

It’s so much easier than treading that finest of lines
