History Repeats

Why do we refuse to learn
And grow from our mistakes?
Trapped in a recurring dream
From which we never wake
On and on the cycle goes
No desire to escape
Murder, war, and genocide
Is the future that awaits

And everything that happens
Know we’ve seen it all before
Stories so horrific that
We simply can’t ignore
But still we carry on
Heads bowed towards the floor
Onward we blindly stumble
Back to where we were before

Every day more blood gets spilled
Staining red the city streets
Yet still we slither in silence
Not a single person speaks
Lest we shatter the illusion
That we’ve mastered global peace
And through humanity’s inaction
History repeats
